In March I traveled to Maryland, Arkansas and Colorado for Cooking Matters. The organization teaches families to make better decisions while grocery shopping and preparing meals. Cooking Matters wanted to see the impact of their classes, so I traveled with an independent researcher to observe graduates grocery shopping and making meals in their kitchens. Participants learn how to read and understand nutrition labels as well as identify foods that are convenient, affordable, and most importantly healthy. Something so simple can be so important in giving children a better chance to succeed. I learned a lot from my time around these wonderful families, and I'm so happy to have been a part of this project.
